Illness during WW: ZW or continued payment by employer?

Do you become ill during WW? Then your benefit may shift to Sickness Benefit (ZW). Discover the rules and differences.

From WW to ZW

If you become unfit for work during WW, report sick to UWV. They pay ZW (70-90% daily wage, max. 2 years). You are not unemployed but ill, so no application obligation. After 2 years: WIA.

Continued payment by employer

If illness started before dismissal, employer may continue paying for 70-104 weeks (Improvement Gatekeeper Act). After dismissal: ZW if employer does not pay.

Practical steps

Report illness within 2 days. UWV assesses incapacity for work. Collects medical information. Appeal possible in case of wrongful rejection. Combine with reintegration for speedy recovery and return to labour market. (197 words)
