Becoming Ill During Unemployment Benefits: To the Sickness Benefits Act and Back

If you become ill during your unemployment benefit (WW), you can switch to the Sickness Benefits Act (ZW). This article covers the conditions, application procedure, benefit amount and reintegration obligations.

Conditions for ZW Transition

You must be unfit for work (able to work less than 65%) and report to the UWV within 2 days. No employer anymore? Then loss of earnings under ZW applies.

Amount and Duration of ZW Benefit

The ZW amounts to 70% of the daily wage, maximum the WW daily wage. Duration: up to 104 weeks, with reintegration via the UWV track 2 process.

Application Process

Submit the claim via 'My UWV' with a doctor's certificate. The UWV assesses within 14 days. Report work capacity weekly.

Back to WW

Recovered? Reactivate WW entitlement within 4 weeks. Long-term ill? Possibly WIA after 2 years. Note: double claim rules prevent overlap. (197 words)
