What does the WIEG benefit entail?
This benefit covers income loss when caring for a newborn during paid parental leave. Paid by the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), based on your income over the three months prior to the leave. Valid until 52 weeks after birth. Combinable with parental pay or partner pay, not with unemployment benefit.

Maximum Amount WIEG Benefit 2024
For 2024: €2,120 per week, set by the Ministry of SZW. Dependent on your average income three months prior to leave: 70% of daily income, max. €2,120/week.
Calculation example
With €280 daily income:
- Daily income: €280
- 70% = €196/day
- €196 × 7 = €1,372/week
Below maximum, so €1,372/week. With higher income: max. €2,120.
Annual maximum
€2,120 × 52 = €110,240 per year (theoretical; lower with income deductions).

Rights
- Benefit upon meeting conditions during leave.
- Combination with parental or partner pay (not unemployment benefit).
- Leave duration: 16-52 weeks.
- Tax-free up to €3,800.
