Transition from Wajong to WIA Benefit

From Wajong to WIA: criteria, deadlines and preparations for the transition after illness or recovery.

1 min leestijd

In case of recovery or after 2 years of sickness benefits, you can transition from Wajong to WIA (Wet werk en inkomen naar arbeidsvermogen). The UWV assesses after 91 weeks of illness whether you are entitled to WGA (income-related) or IVA (completely unfit for work). Criteria: degree of disability over 35% for WGA, 80% for IVA. Prepare with medical reports and occupational expertise. Differences with Wajong: WIA is more temporary and encourages return to work more strongly. Legal basis: WIA articles 7 and 8. Many Wajong recipients experience stress due to uncertainty; request information in a timely manner. Practical steps: complete the Sickness Benefits application, undergo assessment and consider objection in case of rejection. This prevents financial gaps and may offer higher benefits in case of partial recovery.
