Income Limits and Admission Requirements for Social Housing

Social housing is for lower incomes. The Affordable Rent Act sets limits: in 2024 maximum €47,699 for single-person households, €52,671 for multi-person households.

Admission Requirements

You must meet the rent allowance limit and not own your own home. Municipalities screen via the Personal Records Database. Suitability test: the home may not be more expensive than 130% of the quality profile.

Change in Income

Does your income increase? Report this within one month, otherwise risk of reallocation. A decreasing income may justify urgency.

Exceptions and Objection

For status holders or bereaved persons, relaxations sometimes apply. In case of wrongful exclusion: appeal possible via the General Administrative Law Act.

Check your status annually to remain eligible. Local rules may be stricter.
