When entitled to income top-up?

The individual income top-up (II top-up) is a periodic benefit for social assistance recipients with very low income not due to their own fault, such as illness or divorce. Unlike a one-off emergency payment, this provides monthly extra money, up to € 450 gross per year.

  • Duration: 1-3 years, reapplication possible.
  • Conditions: At least 3 years social assistance and income below 100% of the standard amount.
  • Application: At the municipality with income history.

Benefits and pitfalls

Can be combined with other schemes, but counts towards the assets test. Rejection? Objection possible. Ideal for those experiencing structural poverty after acute emergency, as a bridge to financial stability.
