Rent Price Changes and Adjusting Rent Allowance

Does your rent increase or decrease? Adjust your rent allowance immediately to prevent overpayment. Follow this guide for hassle-free updates.

In case of rent price adjustment, such as the annual rent increase on 1 July or due to renovation, you must report the new rent. Log in to toeslagen.nl, go to 'Changes to rent allowance' and enter the new bare rent price, including service costs. Keep the rent increase letter from your landlord as proof. The allowance will be recalculated from the date of change. If your rent rises above the liberalisation threshold (€879.66 in 2024), the allowance may lapse. In case of decrease due to subletting or moving: report within 8 weeks. Errors lead to repayment of excess amounts received. Tenants in Owners' Associations (VvE's) report joint costs separately. Always check the maximum rent threshold for your situation. In disputes with the landlord, involve the Rent Committee. This way, you stay in control of your allowance and avoid surprises. (202 words)
